new style icon alert

caajkim has a new style icon - miranda kerr. everything she wears is so effortlessly chic.
that is all for now.
(no photos in this post - do your own google image search, caajkim is tired)

I work very hard to look casual. It's deliberate to look like you didn't try too hard, as my old boss Ralph Lauren would say.

just some caaj work looks

so since caajKim is now a working woman once again (movin on up!), she is forced to peruse the more office-appropriate looks featured on net-a-porter (n.a.p.) for inspiration. as a caveat, before i continue, "office-appropriate" as used on this blog is not relevant to you if you work at an investment bank, hospital, private equity firm, energy company, animal hospital - in short, if you work anywhere other than a fashion company or maybe marketing firm. perhaps what you would wear to dinner or for a night out is essentially what we would wear to work (within reason obvi!). while i wish leather and studs were work-appropriate even for me (well, actually they might be, but i figure i should wait the obligatory two months before expressing my true colors...) - for the time being, i think pencil skirts, slacks, blouses, etc. are much more in the realm of caaj office appropriate. below are some of my recent fav looks from net-a-porter...oh, n.a.p., why you gotta be sooo good!

another caaj hair post

honestly, i don't know what's wrong with me but i def have a hair change addiction. if i don't seek help soon, i will end up bald from all the hair dyeing and processing. i know nothing screams "i'm so not a try hard!!" like being caaj bald, but somehow i don't think that look would flatter me much. that being said though, i'm LOVING jess alba's hair in this pic - cut and color (even though i did just go dark again..) i've been wanting to chop my hair for so long though and not gone through with it so many times but maybe this pic will finally motivate me to take the plunge - will caajKim really finally have a long bob? i know everybody's waiting for the news with bated breath..

sneaks

so i know isabel marant started the whole sneaker trend with her hidden wedge sneaks, but i personally don't really like those original ones. i think the wedge looks weird and the sneaks end up looking midgety and stunted. i do, however, like sandro's spin on the trend with their albatorocks (pictured below). i think the studs make them especially caaj and cool (i mean we at the the styleruminative always appreciate a good stud). what i don't like though is that they are priced at a whopping six hundo which seems rather aggressive for a pair of sneaks, esp by sandro - given that the isabel marant ones retail at only $80 more. i know my finance skillz aren't the strongest, but what limited finance knowledge i do have (hello 2 years of investment banking, what what!) tells me that these are not a good investment. however, since this is NOT a boring finance blog, but rather, a fun fashion blog, the bad investment sneaks are prominently featured below - enjoy!

san francisco fashion

fashion in san francisco is such an interesting beast that i felt that i must dedicate a blog post to pointing out a few observations i have made over my brief stay here. first of all, the definition of "fashionable" in san francisco is very broad. you can be completely caaj and laid-back and not own a single pair of heels here, and be considered fashionable. on the other hand, you can also be a tryhard who wears pencil skirts and 4-inch heels everyday, and you too will be considered fashionable. i always thought san francisco-fashionable meant that you absolutely had to dress caaj - meaning no heels - or else you'd be looked at like a tryhard alien - but it ain't so. oh trust me, i was as shocked as you are. i mean, i'm the one who only packed ONE pair of heels for a whole month here thinking that i would be uber-caaj and appreciated here with my low key stylings. i mean, don't get me wrong - my uber-caaj low key stylings are obvi appreciated, but alas, i mourn the missed fashion opportunities that throwing some tryhard pieces into the mix would have helped me achieve. so first takeaway? san francisco is NOT all caaj - pack accordingly.

onto the second groundbreaking takeaway...

the other interesting thing about san francisco fashion is that not only is there no set standard of how caaj a san franciscan must dress, but there is also no set weather-appropriate dressing standard. since the weather ranges from about 45 to 70 degrees year around, winter dressing, as a concept, does not seem to exist. it is all by a person's personal cold weather tolerance. in san francisco, you can be freezing your a** off, bundled up in a winter coat, scarf, and boots, barely surviving the walk to work, while the person next to you will be wearing teva sandals and a half-sleeved tshirt with shorts. both looks are perfectly acceptable in terms of what is appropriate to wear to brave a san francisco winter (whether the teva look is acceptable in terms of what is appropriate to wear to simply live in this world is an entirely separate issue).

in new york, however, everyone seems to adhere to the same winter dressing standard. if you wear ballet flats with bare feet on even a brisk fall day, you feel like kind of an idiot because everyone knows that you are freezing your little footsies off just so you can wear the ballet flats that complete your outfit. and if everyone knows that you are going through such pains for the sake of fashion, what does that make you? A TRYHARD. very good, you're learning. so again, being truly caaj is trying hard, but not looking like you're trying hard. so greatest takeaway of all? in all other locations that are not san francisco, you must wear winter-appropriate clothing that keeps you warm unless you want the world to know you for the tryhard that you truly are.
